Cultural
information: "Hornwort" doubles as a
pond plant or warm water aquarium plant. It can be found year
round at the local aquarium store. If purchased at an aquarium
shop inspect the plant for snails and snail eggs...
"Hornwort" has introduced snails to my aquariums. I've
also had "Hornwort" shatter (dropped all needles) in my
tank creating a real mess.
"Hornwort" is marginally hardy... if at all in
Colorado. This oxygenating plant prefers warmer water... but will
adapt well to colder water. Plant clumps in baskets topped with
gravel between 24" to 36" in any size pond or container
garden. "Hornwort" is easy to propagate by taking stem
cuttings in summer. The plant may be over wintered in a well lit
aquarium.
