Wildflower Field notes: The plant portion of Showy Milkweed is not much to look at, but the flowers are really awesome. Eventually the pollinated flowers evolve into a 4" to 5" Banana shaped fruit. All the kids in the neighborhood pretended these fruits were hand grenades while playing army.

This easily identifiable plant can be found growing in any sunny location in meadows, fields, roadsides, or any newly disturbed soils.
