Wildflower Field notes: This clump of Golden Smoke smoke perplexed us for quite some time because its flowers were growing at the base of the plant instead of at the top. Maybe it had something to do with very dry conditions?

Look for Golden Smoke in sandy or gravely soils along roadways, stream banks, and open fields.
