Wildflower Field notes: Canada Thistle has beautiful flowers, but the plant is a major pest out competing many native plants. Every effort should be made to keep the plants from flowering and going to seed. Some control can be gained by digging the large tap roots. Removing flower heads before Canada Thistle goes to seed will help to prevent further spreading. Spraying with a herbicide such as Roundup offers the best control.
