Wildflower Field notes: Balsam Root is quite common. Its easy to locate and identify. In spring you can find entire hillsides covered with flowering Balsam Root. 

Look for Balsam Root on the western slope on sunny hillsides, clearings in aspen forests, and in sagebrush country.
