"Garlic" is grown from cloves. The cloves should be planted in the fall similar to flowering bulbs.

The Bed: Add a fresh layer of rich compost to the top soil, then till or spade the bed to loosen the soil and work in the compost. Rake level.

How to Grow: Purchase "Garlic" cloves at your local Garden Center. Divide the bulbs down to individual clove pieces. Plant the clove pieces with their tips up, 1.5" to 2" deep, spaced 5" - 6" apart in fertile well drained soil. Next heavily mulch the bulbs for the winter. Come spring remove most of the mulching. As the plants begin to emerge, water as needed. As the plants start to naturally yellow it's time to reduce watering in preparation of harvesting.

Harvesting: Carefully dig the bulbs after half of the plant has yellowed or started to turn brown. Bulbs can be dried on wire screen racks, or a string can be run thru the bulbs similar to a popcorn garland.

Available Hybrids - Cultivars: Italian Late, German X-tra Hardy, and Elephant Garlic.
