"Leek American Flag" is a Ferry Morse seed. "Leek" looks similar to large scallions. The foliage is blue-green with white shanks. "Leek" has a sweet Onion flavor. Their great in soups and stews.

The Bed: Add a fresh layer of rich compost to the top soil, then till or spade the bed to loosen the soil and work in the compost. Rake level.

How to Grow: Leek can be planted 4 to 5 weeks before last frost. Plant seed 1/2" deep... 1/4" to 1/2" apart in rows spaced 18" apart. Thin seedlings to 2" apart after they have reached 3" to 4" in height. Keep the soil moist... but not soggy until the seeds germinate. After germination, water as needed. Mulch the plants heavily if you intend to over winter them.

Harvesting: Leek can be pulled when its base is 1" in circumference. Plants can be blanched by mounding soil around the stems as they grow.
