Cultivation:
Plant in partial sun to full shade in moist compost rich, well drained
soil. Violas will adapt to most soil types. Space new container
grown plants 8" - 12" apart. "Freckles Sweet
Violet" dislikes having wet
feet while dormant. A prolific self seeder. Mulch plants for winter protection. A great
choice for rock gardens. Grows well in containers.
Propagation:
Seed can be started in a cold frame or greenhouse. Start violas in
early spring, start pansies in January and hold indoors until
early spring. Your best bet is to purchase pre-started plant in
packs or pots from your local Garden Center. Once established
plants can be divided in early spring. Many varieties are
self seeding.
