Cultivation: Viola 'Columbine' is very popular in Europe and may be difficult to locate. Plant in partial sun to full shade in moist compost rich, well drained soil in beds or containers. Viola 'Columbine' will adapt to most soil types. Space new container grown plants 6" - 8" apart.  Remove spent flowers to promote new flower growth. Mulch plants for winter protection. A great choice for rock gardens.
 
Propagation:
Seed can be started in a cold frame or greenhouse. Start violas in early spring, start pansies in January and hold indoors until early spring. For a quicker showing.... purchase pre-started plant in packs or pots from your local Garden Center. Once established plants can be divided in early spring. Many varieties are self seeding.
