Lobelia cardinalis
Cultivation: Cardinal Flower is one of the few perennials that produce red flowers. Plant Cardinal Flower in partial shade in fertile, moist to wet soil. 

Cardinal Flower is an excellent choice for planting along the sides of ponds or streams as it prefers very moist soils. 

The "Cardinal Flowers" bright red blossoms attract bee's, butterflies, and humming birds. If you can stand to cut them, the flowers are excellent for cutting.

Propagation:
Purchase pre-started Cardinal Flower plants at your local greenhouse or garden shop. Once this tall growing perennial becomes established, plants may be dug and divided in late spring to early summer. Stem cuttings may also be taken and rooted anytime during the summer months.
