Perennial
Cultivation:
Plant Day Lilies in full sun in fertile, well drained soil.
"Daylilies" tolerate most soil types and short periods
of drought well. Space new container grown plants 24" -
30" apart. Prolonged periods of dry conditions will reduce
flowering. Once established most "Daylilies" are
tolerant of high heat.
Feed every two weeks with a balanced liquid
fertilizer while the plant is producing flowers. 'Texas Sunlight'
has 3" golden yellow flowers and will re-flower a second
time. The flowers are
excellent for cutting. The name Hemerocallis is derived from two
Greek words meaning beauty and day... because the flowers only
last for one day.
Propagation:
Purchase pre-started Day Lily plants at your local Garden Center.
Divide the plants every 3 to 4 years to maintain vigor.
Potential pests ~ diseases:
Aphids or spider mites.
