Cultural
information: This recently introduced Philodendron has
large thick, leathery leaves. Congo is very hardy and quite easy to grow.
Place your Philodendron 'Congo' any where there is a decent light
source except direct hot sunshine. In low light Philodendron Congo
may
become stretched. Hybrid Philodendrons dislike cold drafts.
Check the Philodendron Cong for watering a couple times per
week for the first month until you understand the plants
watering requirements. In larger containers allow the surface of the
soil to dry down bout 2" - 3" before watering. In smaller containers
allow the soil to dry 1/2" to 1" from the soils surface.
It is important to water all the way around the plant. Watering
only one side of the plant can cause dry spots in the soil which
intern will lead to foliage loss. Water until liquid runs into the
drip tray. Some plants will take up the drip tray runoff within a
couple of hours. If not remove excess water to help prevent root
rot.
Feed Philodendron Congo monthly when actively growing with a balanced liquid plant food such as Peter's
Houseplant Special. Feed quarterly if inactive.
Propagation of hybrid Philodendrons is difficult and not
recommended.
Common house plant pests can include: Aphids or Foliar Mealy
bug.
Philodendron 'Congo' is available in 6" containers along
with 8", 10" and 14" specimen plants at your local
garden center or greenhouse.
