Cultural
information: "Iron Cross Begonias" are
unique and beautiful plants. Each leaf is heavily textured and
develops a cross like pattern similar to the shields of medieval
times. Iron Cross Begonias require bright filtered light
and warm conditions to grow properly. Any bright window that
receives morning or late day sunshine with filtered light for the
balance of the day will do. Iron Cross Begonia dislike being chilled. On those really cold winter days
and nights the Iron Cross Begonia should be moved from the window to a
temporary warmer location.
Allow the surface soil of your Iron Cross Begonia to dry to the
touch between waterings. Water with tepid water, watering all the
way around the plant until water just seeps into the drip tray.
Remove any standing water from the drip tray to help prevent root
rot. Its best to avoid splashing water on
the leaves to help inhibit mildew growth.
Feed monthly with Peter's Blossom Booster liquid fertilizer if the plant is actively growing,
bi-monthly if inactive. Clip out any withering or fading leaves
that look like the uppermost leaf in the pictured plant.
Iron Cross Begonias are difficult to propagate.
Common houseplant pests include: Mildews
"Iron Cross Begonias" can be found at your local
