Houseplant Cultural information: This very unique and exotic plant would make a great addition to the collection of any seasoned plant collector. They are a bit difficult to grow... but well worth the challenge.

Place Alocasia Black Velvet in filtered light sitting in a moist pebble tray. Strong sunlight can easily burn this plants delicate leaves.

Allow the soils surface to dry down before watering. Don't let your Black Velvet plant wilt. Wilting can cause leaf spotting. Most varieties of Alocasia are sensitive to water quality. City tap water contains chemicals that your Alocasia don't like. Let your water sit out over night to let some of the chemicals dissipate. I save water from my aquariums to water all my houseplants with... and my Alocasia African Mask is thriving.

Feed only when the plant is actively growing with a liquid balanced plant food.

Propagation in dry climates is virtually impossible.

Common house plant pests include: Spider mites

These beautiful plants are usually grown in 4" and 6" inch containers. Black Velvet is hard to find.
