Cut Flower Care: Keep the
water in the vase of your Sweetheart Rose fresh. Clean vase water
is the key element in maintaining a long vase life with Roses.
Replace the water dialy with cold water keeping the water level near the top of the vase.
Re-cut
1/2" from the base of each stem under water using a
sharp knife with each water change. Sweetheart Roses should
be dipped in QuickDip immediately after cutting to help prevent
bent neck. Remove any foliage
that may become submerged after re-cutting.
Variety note: Sweetheart
Roses are available in a wide range of colors including orange,
pink, peach, red, white, yellow, lavender and bi-colors. Sweetheart Roses
are sold in either 20 or 25 stem bunches. 20 stem bunches usually
come from Holland, while 25 stem bunches come from either
California.
Sweetheart roses are basically a
small headed form of a hybrid tea roses. Unlike spray Roses,
Sweethearts have a single flower head per stem. Sweetheart Roses
are very popular for wedding work, high school proms and home
comings
Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or
FloraLife to the vase that contains
your Sweetheart Rose" with each water change. Floral
preservative helps to prevent bacterial growth, aids in keeping
the vase water clear, and feeds your flowers and foliages helping
to insure a longer vase life.
To make your own
cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a quart of cold
water... mixing thoroughly.
