Floral Greens Care: Keep the water in the vase of your Red Huck
fresh. Replace the water every 3 days with cold water... keeping
the water level near the top of the vase.
Re-cut 1/2" from
the base of each Red Huck stem under water using a sharp
knife
with each water change. Remove any foliage that may become
submerged after re-cutting.
Variety note: Red
Huck is a commonly used filler green that will outlast the
cut flowers in a floral arrangement. The bronze colored foliage and
stems adds a nice touch to fall arrangements. Matured Red Huck may have purple
berries. The stiff, woody stems of Red Huck makes it
easy to work with. Red Huck also goes by the name of African
Boxwood.
Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or
FloraLife to the vase that contains your Red Huck with
each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent bacterial
growth, aids in keeping vase water clear, and feeds your flowers
and foliages helping to insure longer vase life.
If you run out of commercial flower preservative you can
make your own fresh cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a
quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
