General Tropical Flower Care: Keep the water in the vase of your Queen Protea fresh. Replace the water every 3 days with cool water keeping the water level near the top of the vase.

Re-cut 1/2" from the base of each Queen Protea stem under water using a sharp knife with each water change. Remove any foliage that may become submerged after re-cutting.

Variety note: Next to the King Protea, the Queen Protea is probably the second most popular Protea in the Proteaceae family. Queen Protea is a large and heavy flower that will require a heavy vase to keep them in place. Queen Protea is usually sold by the stem. There is also a green form of this flower available.

In their native Southern African habitat they grow as a small bush to 8 feet in height. The plant can spread to 5 foot in width. Home owners use the plant as a border fence.

Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or FloraLife to the vase that contains your Queen Protea with each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent bacterial growth, keeps vase water clear and feeds your tropical flowers insuring a longer vase life.

If you run out of commercial flower preservative you can make your own fresh cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
