Tropical Flower Care: Keep the water in the vase of your
Phalaenopsis
Orchid fresh. Replace the water every 3 days with cool water keeping the water level near the top of the vase. Re-cut
1/2" from the base of each Phalaenopsis stem under water using a
sharp knife with each water change. Remove any flowers that may become submerged after re-cutting.
Variety note: Perhaps one the
most common orchids used in the floral trade. Common may not be a
good choice of words because Phalaenopsis orchids are just as
beautiful as any other Orchid. Within the trade they are
referred to as Phals. Phalaenopsis orchids are available in
several shades of lavender, cream, pink, white, yellows, burgundy,
and brown, many
of which can have a "Checkerboard" pattern in the petals.
Phalaenopsis orchids are sold by the stem or by the flower.
Individual flowers can measure up to 4" across. Most are
imported from New Zealand and Holland.
As a
potted house plant... Phalaenipsis Orchids are a good choice for
the beginning Orchid grower. They are easy to grow.

Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or
FloraLife to the vase that contains your Phalaenopsis Orchi"
with each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent
bacterial growth and feeds your flowers insuring a longer vase
life.
To make your own cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table
sugar to a quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
