Tropical Flower Care: Keep the vase water of your Heliconia
Bihai fresh. Replace the water every 3 days with warm water keeping the water level near the top of the vase. Re-cut
1/2" from the base of each Heliconia stem under water using a
sharp knife with each water change.
Variety note: These eye
catching plants add a distinct tropical look to any exotic
arrangement. Due to their size, usually a single Heliconia stem is
used in an arrangement. The body of the arrangement is built
around this large focal point. A large vase or container may be required
to keep the arrangement from tipping. When arranged in foam use high
density foam. Chicken wire or ties can provide additional support.
In the wild these plants can reach 15 feet in height. Heliconia
Bihai is available year round and sold by the stem. Each stem can
measure 4 feet or more in lenght.
Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or
FloraLife to the vase that contains your Heliconia Bihai
with each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent
bacteria growth and feeds your Heliconia flower helping to insure a longer vase
life.
If you run out of commercial flower preservative you can
make your own fresh cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a
quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
