General
Tropical Cut Flower Care: Keep the water in the vase of your
Fiddleheads
fresh. Replace the water every 3 days with cold water keeping
the water level near the top of the vase. Re-cut 1/2" from
the base of each Fiddle Head stem under water using a sharp
knife
with each water change.
Variety note: This unusual
looking tropical floral green is actually the new growth of a giant fern that
grows in Hawaii. The ferns new growth uncurls from the center of
the plant forming these Fiddle like heads. As the Fiddleheads
develop they will transform into a long
straight stick or branch. The ferns fronds grow horizontally
from the brown stems. Fiddle heads are available year round and
sold in 10 stem bunches. Their are two color forms available,
burgundy (pictured) and green. Fiddle Heads are a bit fragile. The
top of the stems can snap off fairly easily.
Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or
FloraLife to the vase that contains your Fiddleheads
with each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent
bacteria growth and feeds your Fiddle Heads insuring a longer vase
life.
To make your own cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table
sugar to a quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
