General Tropical Cut Flower Care: Keep the water in the vase of your Banksia Indian Summer fresh. Replace the water every 3 days with cold water keeping the water level near the top of the vase. Re-cut 1/2" from the base of each Banksia Protes stem under water using a sharp knife with each water change. Remove any foliage that may become submerged after re-cutting to avoid bacterial growth.

Variety note: The "Indian Summer" Banksia has a Cattail type look to it accented by thin pine needle like foliage. Another western Australian native plant found growing in swampy areas. The trees can reach 20 foot in height. The Indian Summer Banksia flowers dry well, but the needle like foliage should be removed. Bunches of Indian Summer Banksia measure 18" to 24" in length and are sold by the stem.

Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or FloraLife to the vase that contains your Banksia Indian Summer with each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent bacteria growth and feeds your flowers insuring a longer vase life. To make your own cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
