Potted Bulbs Cultural information: When we think of bulb plants we tend to think of Daffodils and Tulips. Calla Lilies don't quite seem to fit in with the rest of the bunch. Calla Lilies are grown from bulbs, so they could be considered a bulb plant, a flowering plant, or a house plant since they are available year round.

When shopping for a Calla Lilies look for a plant that looks like the pictured plant. Calla Lilies should have dark glossy green leaves, with few or no yellow tips, and open flowers or emerging spikes. There are a few Calla Lily hybrid varieties available that have red, yellow or pink spathes. Spathes are the flowers.

Calla Lilies prefer to live in a well lit location that's just shy of full sun and not to hot. Check your Calla Lily for water every couple of days until you become familiar with your plants need. The soil should be kept moist at all times. Feed your Calla Lily every two weeks while the plant is flowering with a balanced liquid fertilizer. If the Calla Lily plant is growing, but not flowering, feed monthly. If your Calla Lily plant is not growing feed every two or three months.

Timberline Gardens in Arvada has some large Calla Lily specimens on display during the fall and winter months.
